Nevres Kemal, the senior social workers who warned the government of poor standards in childcare cases, has decided to take action against Haringey Council for victimisation. Ms Kemal claims that she was refused an interview with the council for a social work position after responding to a national advertising campaign for jobs with them. She alleges that her previous whistleblowing at Haringey has led to victimisation of her.
Ms Kemal twice exposed deficiencies in the way childcare cases were handled; first in 2007 with an alleged child abuse case, and then in 2008 six months before the death of Baby P. She apparently told ministers that Haringey’s social services department was out of control only a short time before 17 month old Peter Connelly was killed.
