Judge Rob Murfitt made a nine-year old girl called Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii a ward of court so that she could change her ridiculous name. The girl had refused to tell her friends her name and went simply by "K".
The judge said the name could expose her to teasing. "The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," he said.
"It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily."
Other examples of bizarre names were cited during the hearing, including Number 16 Bus Shelter, Violence and Midnight Chardonnay.
The girl's name has now been changed and the custody case resolved, court officials said.
Responding to the story on the BBC News website one reader said:
My unusual name hasn't affected me at all; in fact, it has helped me make friends and improve my confidence, especially since leaving school.

Under UK law a person is entitled to change all or any part of his or her name without the permission of any authority and without any formality provided that the use of the assumed name is not for fraudulent purposes. A Deed Poll, however, is the official process by which a person is able to change his or her name and is the evidence you will need to produce in order to change a name on official documents and records.
